TIPS TO CREATE AN EXERCISE PROGRAM ROUTINE


“Rituals are actions with meaning or emotion attached to them.”

Training with purpose, having a plan and working towards a goal will create a “ritual”.

Our daily rituals can help offer something that’s not easily found right now:

CERTAINTY.

1. SUNDAY NIGHT PLANNING

Get the whiteboard out (or diary) and schedule in which days you are planning to exercise – what type of training it is and at what time – make this as specific as possible. It is extremely satisfying when you go to the whiteboard at the end of each day and/or week and see the allocated sessions with a successfully completed tick!

At the end of the week you can revise what did and did not work. This will allow you to make changes that best suit your work, life and training schedule for the upcoming week.

2. TRAIN PRIOR TO WORK

“If you win the morning – you win the day”

If you get your allocated sessions done first thing in the morning then you are far less likely to miss a session! This is because you have less (if any) interruptions in the morning. Plus it does not give you a chance to make an excuse!

3. OBTAIN A TRAINING MATE


Accountability is fundamental to creating a healthy routine. Having someone that relies on you and vice versa to complete exercise will increase motivation, enjoyment & accountability.

4. FIND A UNIQUE TRAINING ENVIRONMENT

Participate in an exercise class, join a gym/team or train in an outdoor environment that is fun, engaging and different to where you would spend majority of your time. Although this is difficult during a pandemic – you can still always find somewhere unique to train i.e. beaches, parks, ovals or your mates place!

5. INCREASE VARIETY OF TRAINING

Do not become someone who has done the same exercise program for the past 5 years. Get creative, do some research, obtain a trainer and challenge yourself in weird and whacky ways that you may not have thought of yourself. DO NOT knock something until you have tried it.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE CONSISTENT YET DIFFERENT.
